Our Philosophy

Mission

Our mission is to help kids and their parents build a high-performance pinewood derby car, and to have fun in the process.

Philosophy

On the Pinewood Derby - We believe that the pinewood derby is an excellent adult/child event in that it promotes craftsmanship and following rules, and has a healthy dose of competition. Our family approaches the event with the primary goal of having fun building and racing our cars. Our secondary goal is to build the fastest car possible within the race rules.

On Winning - We believe that in the pinewood derby (and in all aspects of life) we should strive to "do our best". However, we do not promote a "win at all cost attitude", as this approach goes beyond the bounds of fairness and fun that should characterize pinewood derby racing.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.  1 Corinthians 9:24-27

On Parental Involvement - Children should do as much work on the car as they can physically and safely accomplish. For a younger child, the adult must usually be very involved. For an older child, the adult role should be that of a coach or mentor.

The main reason for developing the car plan booklets was to provide a way for children to be more involved in the car building process. By using the templates and step-by-step instructions, the child can take a much more active role than they would be able to otherwise.

Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.  Proverbs 22:6

On Business - We provide our customers with quality products and customer service at a fair price. We cannot guarantee that your car will win a trophy, but we can guarantee that you will be satisfied with our products and our service.

The Lord abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are his delight.  Proverbs 11:1

On Life - We believe that God exists, and that he created all matter and life. As part of his creation, he created humans, and gave them stewardship over his creation.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  Genesis 1:1

And God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the seas and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."  Genesis 1:28

God loved, and continues to love his creation. But humans rebelled against God, and continue to do so today. Although God is love, he is also sinless. Therefore, because of our sin we are destined to die and spend eternity apart from God.

The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  1 John 4:8

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.  Romans 5:12

But God made a way for us to be with him forever. He, through the person of Jesus, came to earth and paid the penalty for our sin by dying for us. He then overcame death, and ascended back to heaven. By believing in Jesus' sacrifice, and by accepting him as the Lord of our lives, we are forgiven of our sin and have the promise of eternal life with God in heaven.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.  John 3:16

This eternal life is a free gift. It cannot be earned through works, nor can it be passed from one person to another. Each person must choose for themselves whether they will accept Jesus as their Lord, or whether they will continue to be lord over their own lives.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9
