Tungsten Side Weight System - 2.3 ounces1
Pinewood Derby Weight

The Tungsten Side Weight System allows you to place weight on the side of the car, covered by the rear wheels. When additional weight is placed behind the rear axle, a very aggressive COG can be achieved.

The Tungsten Side Weight System includes two side weights, mounting screws, a mounting tool, and a BSA axle for marking drill locations. To use the system you will need a drill, a 5/64 inch drill bit (or 1/16 inch drill bit - see below), and epoxy adhesive.

BSA and MV wheels have been tested to work with these weights. Awana and PineCar wheels do not work with these weights. For other wheel types, make sure to test the wheels with the weights before racing.

Installation Instructions

Locate Weight

Insert Tool and Locate Weight
  1. Slide the blunt-end axle into the tool (beveled end first), and insert the tool into the slot of a weight.

  2. Insert the tool into a rear axle slot or hole.

Mark Pilot Holes
Mark and Drill Pilot Holes
  1. Hold the side weight against the tool and in the correct orientation, and then use the provided nail to mark the drill locations by pressing the point through each hole in the weight and slightly into the wood.

  2. Remove the weight and the tool, and repeat for the other side of the car.

  3. Drill the four pilots holes with a 5/64 inch drill bit (a 1/16 inch drill bit will work if you are using axles holes instead of slots). The holes should be 1/4 inch deep.

Attach Weight

Wheels Attached
Attach Weight
  1. Mix a small amount of epoxy adhesive, and place it on one side of the car in the area where the weight will be attached.

  2. Place the weight onto the adhesive and attach with the two screws. Make sure the notch is downwards and towards the side of the car.

  3. Wipe off any excess epoxy.

  4. Repeat steps 5 and 7 for the other side of the car.

  5. Allow the epoxy to cure before attaching wheels.

1Weight shown is for two weights, including four mounting screws (provided).
