Extended Board

THE BOARD doesn't do tricks, but it does move fast. The non-skid surface can be made into any shape to personalize your "ride".
Note: THE BOARD requires the use of an additional piece of wood to form the board surface. The use of additional wood may not be allowed in some races.
In addition to the car kit and basic hand tools, you will need the following supplies to build THE BOARD:
- 2 Pine Boards - 2-1/2" x 7" x 1/2" (Available at home improvement or hardware stores - often sold in a craft wood section. One 2-1/2" x 7" x 1" board will work, but this size is not readily available. Some car kit blocks have sufficient excess material to form the board surface. However, the Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kits do not have sufficient excess material).
- Coping saw or equivalent to cut the outline of the car body
- Saw to cut a pine board to 1/4" thick
- Files - Flat and Shoe Rasp (Hardware store item)
- Wood chisel (1/2" or smaller)
- 2-3/4 ounces of segmented lead weight with adhesive attached. These plans assume that each segment is 1/4 ounce and measures 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/8".
- Sheet of fine grit sandpaper for the no-skid surface
- The extended wheel base can be created by either cutting new axle slots with two hacksaw blades, or by drilling axle holes with the Pro-Body Tool. Instructions and templates are provided in the Unique Car Plans booklet.
